** When flying anywhere, I always use Expedia to book my flights and travel plans, including Ireland. In addition to flights, I also use it to book hotels and car rentals. The convenience of it all being on one app is a bonus for me.
Packing cubes are amazing! If you don’t use them yet, I highly recommend purchasing some. This is the set I have. They are key for organization and I feel like I can pack more in my suitcase because of them.
What to Wear in Ireland: Weather Appropriate Clothing
Ireland’s weather is famously unpredictable, often bringing sunshine, rain, and wind all in one day. A versatile wardrobe is key, especially for women wondering what to include in their Ireland travel essentials for women.
Love these beautiful scenes from our Ireland itinerary. There is beauty everywhere you look.
Essential Waterproof Gear for Ireland is a Must on this Packing Guide:
The best raincoat for Ireland travel is a must, as rain is inevitable. A stylish yet practical raincoat will not only keep you dry but also look great in photos. Whether you’re exploring the Cliffs of Moher or enjoying a scenic city walk, waterproof gear ensures you stay comfortable.
If you’re looking for some of the best high-quality brand of waterproof raincoat for Ireland travel, look at Marmot or Helly Hansen. You will pay more for these jackets, but you’ll also know you’re getting the best product for your trip to Ireland.
It can be tricky to know what to wear in the winter months, when traveling to Ireland. Temperatures average between 4°C and 8°C (39°F-47°F), so it’s important to have warm layers along. This would include a warmer (waterproof) coat, wool sweaters, and a base layer. Temperatures can change quickly, so packing layers like sweaters, base layers, and scarves is crucial. Add a waterproof coat and thermal leggings if traveling in winter months. Refer to the printable packing list for Ireland to ensure you have these weather-appropriate items.
When it comes to the best base layers, Smartwool is my go-to. This is a high-quality buy, but a great staple to have if you live in or travel to cold climates. Base layers are an important item to add to your printable packing list if you’re heading to Ireland in the winter months.
If you wondering about other outfits I wear when I travel to places like Ireland. A lot of my wardrobe ends up coming from stores/brands, like PrAna, just because I love the quality and comfort of their clothes. Here is a little sample of some suitable female travel outfits to add to your Ireland packing list.
Here is another great outfit to add to your Ireland wardrobe from Amazon. Just be sure to have that waterproof raincoat from your printable packing list handy because in Ireland, rain can come anytime.

Shoes and Boots
Furthermore, comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable. Consider waterproof hiking boots, especially if you plan outdoor adventures. These are top-tier items in any packing list for Ireland. I would be sure to have a pair of waterproof shoes or hiking boots because rain is inevitable. These boots are an important item on the printable packing list to Ireland provided for you. Additionally, Scarves and hats are important on colder days. These accessories not only provide warmth but also add a touch of style to your outfits. Speaking of waterproof, a compact, portable umbrella can be a lifesaver during sudden rain showers, however keep in mind that at times the Irish winds make an umbrella impractical, especially near the coast.
My preference are these Keen waterproof hiking boots. I’ve had them since 2017 and they’re really held up.
When flying to Ireland or just meandering around Dublin, I had comfortable tennis shoes. My latest go-to shoes are my On Cloud running shoes.
Other shoes I wore on my Ireland journey’s Vessi, Sorel boots and Sorel tennis shoes. All three of these options are waterproof, which is important for your packing list to Ireland, but I still prayed the tennis shoes with Kreps, just to be on the safe side. On my latest trip to Ireland in 2024, I brought along Sorel Chelsea Boots, which I wore walking the city and out for dinner. My Sorel tennis shoes were worn on many adventures, especially days where we walked more. These made perfect airplane shoes, as well. Furthermore, I brought along Vessi’s. These waterproof weekend shoes make a great travel companion. They’re cute, comfortable and waterproof.

Of course, if you plan to go during chillier months, bring along waterproof gloves. You will also not regret a hat and scarf!
Essential Travel Gear for Ireland: Power Adapter and Chargers for Ireland
No trip to Ireland is complete without the correct Ireland power adapter – Type G. Ireland uses Type G electrical outlets, and having the proper adapter ensures you can charge your phone, camera, and other electronics without hassle.
For added convenience, bring a universal adapter if you plan to visit multiple countries. Keep the Ireland power adapter (Type G) near the top of your Ireland travel essentials for women to avoid any last-minute scrambling.
Another option for a power adapter in Ireland is this universal adapter. If you have plans to go to other countries, this power adapter will have the G-type for Ireland but also adapter options for 100+ other countries.
*** These are not power converters so it’s best not to use your hair dryer with them. I used the hair dryer supplied by the places I stayed in Ireland, plus it’s easier to not have to pack a hair dryer when you’re flying to Ireland.
However, if hair is your concern, add this dual voltage hair straightener and curler to your Ireland packing list. This is the one I bought from Amazon and it worked fabulously for me in Ireland and the United Kingdom. You still need an adapter to use it, but it converts the voltage on it’s own, so it will work outside the USA.
Medications and Personal Care:
Organize your travel documents and medications in an easy-to-access pouch. Essentials include your passport, itinerary, travel insurance, and printed confirmations. Add these to your packing list for Ireland to stay organized. It’s crucial to pack any prescription medications you require, along with a basic travel medical kit. Don’t forget to include sunscreen and lip balm, insect repellent, and toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and skincare products. Here are some of my favorite personal care packing items to ensure you’re fully prepared for your Irish adventure.
Ireland Travel Documents:
Keep your important documents organized and easily accessible. Below, I will post a passport holder and the crossbody bag I use for travel. I strongly recommend the bag as this is the easiest way to store those documents in the airport, when you’re flying to Ireland, for easy access.
Important documents to keep in mind would be your passport, travel insurance, and printed itinerary and reservations.
Also for the flight:
Don’t forget your airplane pillow. Depending on where you’re flying from, the flight to Ireland can be on the longer side. I like to travel in comfort, which is why I bring this along.
Backpack or Day Bag:
A lightweight and durable backpack is essential for day trips, carrying snacks, water, a camera, and any essentials you might need while exploring. Here is what I use. It has a pocket that locks, a USB charger and I use it as my “personal item” on my flights to Ireland.
If you’re planning on doing more hiking with the potential to be in the rain or mist, which is a common occurrence in Ireland, than a dry bag is a better option. Here is a good choice for such bag that won’t break the bank. To boost up your waterproof gear for Ireland, this bag also comes with a waterproof phone pouch. I use this often when I travel. For instance, if I’m going to a beach, lagoon, river tubing, hiking in the rain or kayaking. It keeps my phone dry while allowing me to still take pictures of my adventures.
Cash and Payment Methods:
While credit and debit cards are widely accepted, having some cash on hand is advisable, especially in rural areas or for small purchases. Inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues with card usage.
If you wish to keep cash or important documents on you while flying to Ireland or touring around, get a money belt is a great idea. This is not specifically on the printable packing list to Ireland, but is a good idea for most travel.
Reusable Water Bottle and Snacks:
When you travel to Ireland, staying hydrated is important, especially if you’re planning to hike or walk a lot. If you are flying to Ireland, space can be an issue, which is why we use these collapsible water bottles. We bought 4 of these bottles for our family. I give them a high rating. They easily fold down, making them sensible to pack for your flights to Ireland. Read a full review here.
Camera and Accessories
If you plan to travel Ireland, a camera is a big deal, at least in my opinion. That being said, I will say iPhones, nowadays, take perfectly good photos, so if its all you have and what you like, cool! Go for it! Me, I wouldn’t dare go to Ireland without my big camera. I actually have a whole blog post about my camera! Furthermore, there were way to many scenic stops on my Ireland itinerary to leave my camera behind. Don’t forget to bring your G-type power adapter, as seen on the printable packing list to Ireland, to charge your camera battery.
Miscellaneous Items:
A Portable Fan: Many people like to bring a portable fan on their journey to Ireland. Many accommodations don’t have air conditioning, so have a fan helps circulate the air and white noise.
Top Sheet: Some might not know this, but in Ireland top sheets are often not used. This is something that really doesn’t bother me, but some travelers would prefer to have their top sheet. Consider bringing one along, if you think you’d want it.
