This one is for all the boys who love to read. I wanted to write this post because one challenge I have had as a mom, is finding reading material for my son. He is in his tween years and likes all things adventure, fishing, survival and historical fiction, so finding the best books for boys that feature these things interest is my mission. As a mom, I want to challenge his reading, while continuing to keep his interest. Here is a guide to books for the adventurous outdoor boys, especially the tweens around age 12.

5 of the Best Book Series for Boys
#1) Kevin Lovegreen Books: For the Boy Who Loves to Fish and Hunt
These are pretty easy reads. It has been a while since my son has read them, but when he was newer to chapter books, these books from Kevin Lovegreen kept his attention. Mostly about hunting and fishing, these books for tween boys are full of outdoor adventure. If you have a younger outdoor enthusiast, these are a great option!
#2 Lane Walker Books: Great Choice for Tween Boys
Another round of hunting and fishing books, but slightly more challenging. He has a couple of series you can purchase, my son loved and read both. We bought them as sets and then passed them along to friends after he was done reading them. The sets are called “The Fishing Chronicles” and “Hometown Hunter’s“. These books are excellent for tween boys, around age 12, who love to fish or hunt; the ultimate outdoor series.
#3 Bear Grylls: Excellent Books for Boys Around Age 12
Bear Grylls has a fun and adventurous way about him, making his books a fun read for kids who love the outdoors. In this 12 book series, Bear will take your boys on all kinds of adventures and survival journey’s.
#4 Gary Paulson Books: Outdoor Books for Tween Boys
Some of these books are a little older. My son started with “The Hatchet” in second grade and has since read almost every other Gary Paulson Book. Here are some Gary Paulson books her enjoyed. Gary Paulson books are a best choice for tween boys who love outdoors, fishing and hunting.
#5 Alan Gratz Books: Best Book Series for Boys
These books are great historical fiction for kids and adults alike. Gratz has such a good way of telling a story, that I have seen adults reading these books almost as much as kids. Both my kids have enjoyed Alan Gratz books and it is currently what they’re reading. Here are some of the books they’ve already read and loved!
