Review: Villa Sol in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica

Villa Sol, located in the stunning Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, offers an exceptional resort experience ideal for both relaxation and adventure with the opportunity for a private villa rental or hotel-like room. The resort boasts beautiful villas and rooms with spectacular ocean views, modern amenities, and comfortable furnishings. The villas offer a feel of privacy that many crave, while still allowing guests to use the resort amenities, like the pool and restaurant. We had a beautiful rental at Villa Sol in Playa Hermosa in March of 2023 and I have an honest review of the optional all-inclusive resort and hotel located in the heart of Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

A Review on Villa Sol in Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica

Situated on Playa Hermosa, one of Costa Rica’s pristine beaches, Villa Sol offers top quality private villas along with amenities like a restaurant and pools.

Accommodations:

Rooms are spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with some featuring private balconies or terraces that overlook Playa Hermosa’s bay. Although the hotel-style rooms would be a great budget-friendly way to book your accommodations in Costa Rica, it is not the route we took, but overall they get a good review from others. I prefer the space and a kitchen a private villa would offer, especially since we travel as a family. That being said, I give a highly recommended review of looking into the villas at Villa Sol, whether you book via VRBO or all-inclusive through the resort. We rented a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa with a private plunge pool from VRBO. Although it was a private villa rented through VRBO, we were still able to enjoy the resort’s amenities.

One thing that is nice about Villa Sol, is that you can book a hotel room or a villa rental as an all-inclusive package if you desire. I will talk more about the all-inclusive pros and cons next section of this hotel review, but know it is an option.

Amenities:

Villa Sol Resort provides a variety of amenities including multiple swimming pools, a trolly, and a dining option offering both local and international cuisine.

I would give both pools at Villa Sol a high review rating. One pool is closer to the restaurant and bar, which has expansive views of the bay in Playa Hermosa. The other pool has a fantastic swim-up bar, where we were served by Ivan that week, who knows his way around making a fantastic cocktail.

Villa Sol gets good hotel reviews and is an affordable place to stay in Costa Rica.

We ate a few times at the restaurant at Villa Sol and overall thought the food was great. It is a good place to eat for families, especially those with picky eaters, as it is buffet style. There was more than enough food to choose from and everything we ate tasted great.

Villa Sol has the option to be all-inclusive. Although this is an amenity many seem to enjoy, we opted to not get the all-inclusive package at Villa Sol. The main reason we chose this, is because it left us open to enjoy nearby restaurants. Playa Hermosa has amazing restaurants to choose from. Many are located right on the beach and being able to end our day eating supper while watching the sun set over the ocean was fantastic.

Playa Hermosa offers beautiful sunsets in Costa Rica and if you're looking for a hotel with good reviews, look into Villa Sol.

Activities:

Guests can enjoy a range of activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, and yoga. The resort also organizes excursions, upon request, to explore the rich natural beauty of the surrounding area.

Some local activities that I would recommend, whether you book through Villa Sol or somewhere else, like Get Your Guide are Rincon de la Vieja and Diamante Eco Adventure Park. There are also opportunities to go snorkeling, fishing or even four wheeling. Costa Rica has world-class fishing, which is definitely something to look into, if fishing is your game.

Diamante Adventure Park offers awesome zip lining adventure with beautiful views of one of Costa Rica's all-inclusive resorts and hotels.

The staff at Villa Sol are known for their hospitality and attentiveness, ensuring a memorable stay for all guests. We had nothing but helpful, attentive, and kind hosts at Villa Sol. I give the service at Villa Sol a 5 out of 5 rating.
