Tucked away in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, Caye Caulker is a dreamy island escape that offers a laid-back vibe, stunning marine life, and endless adventure. If you’re looking for the perfect Caye Caulker itinerary, you’ve come to the right place. Whether you want to explore the island’s charm, indulge in fresh seafood at top Caye Caulker restaurants, or embark on thrilling Caye Caulker excursions, this 3-day plan will help you make the most of your trip. Plus, we’ll highlight the best Caye Caulker Belize hotels and share tips on how to navigate the island using a Caye Caulker map.

On our Belize journey, we spent the first 3 days on Caye Caulker and the second part on Ambergris Caye, just south of San Pedro. We spent the first half of our one week itinerary to Belize in Caye Caulker, where our goal was to relax and “Go Slow”, which is the island’s motto. This itinerary will map out some of the fantastic restaurants, hotels and excursions that Caye Caulker has to offer.

Day 1: Arrival and Island Exploration

Midday: Arriving in Caye Caulker

Your adventure begins the moment you step off the island hopper or ferry onto this vibrant island. Most travelers arrive via a water taxi from Belize City, a scenic 45-minute ride, however flying is quicker and more convenient. We flew on Tropic Air to Caye Caulker. Once you arrive, drop your bags at one of the many Caye Caulker Belize hotels. Some top-rated options include Iguana Reef Inn for a relaxing stay, Weezie’s Oceanfront Hotel for a boutique experience, or Barefoot Caye Caulker Hotel for a budget-friendly choice.

Find out the best method of getting to the island for you in this post.

We stayed with VeLento Rentals, which is right next door to Weezie’s. We really enjoyed our stay at Sandy’s Secret, an oceanfront Condo on Caye Caulker. VeLento Rentals has clean and well maintained grounds, wonderful pools to take a dip in and excellent service. Here, you can get complimentary stand-up paddle boards or rent bikes and golf carts to explore Caye Caulker.

If you’re looking for one of the best hotels in Caye Caulker, Belize consider places like Jan’s Hotel, Blu Zen or Barefoot Caye Caulker Hotel. These options are highly rated and closer to The Split.

Afternoon: Get Acquainted to Caye Caulker and Taste of Belizean Flavors

After settling in, grab a Caye Caulker map and start exploring the island. Since we arrived in the afternoon, we had a light snack so we could enjoy a great Belizean supper in the evening. Take a leisurely walk along the sandy streets, enjoying the colorful buildings and friendly atmosphere. The island’s small size makes it easy to navigate, whether on foot or by bike.

After we returned to our rental, we had a nice soak in the pool and then got ready for supper.

Kick off your Caye Caulker dining with a delicious meal at Fantasy Dining restaurant, a local favorite. Savor fresh ceviche and flavorful stew chicken, two must-try dishes that capture the essence of Belizean cuisine. Stew chicken is a Belize staple. The chicken has excellent flavor and falls off the bone.

Evening: A Slow-Paced Island Night and Fishing Off the Dock

As the sun sets, find a quiet spot to relax and take in the golden hues over the Caribbean Sea. Enjoy a light meal or a refreshing cocktail, embracing the laid-back lifestyle that defines Caye Caulker. We settled into comfy chairs on the dock with a drink in hand. Our son is an avid fisherman and spent his evening fishing off the dock. This is an activity he did every morning and evening while we were in Belize. Some of the fish he caught were barracuda, snapper, jack, bonefish and even a nurse shark.

Here is the traveling fishing pole that we bring along to all our vacations. It is light enough and folds down for each packing.

For a late evening treat, we walked to RP’s Roadside Grille.

Day 2: Adventure and Exploration

Morning: Fishing and a Fresh Catch for Breakfast

Rise early and head to the dock for another fishing session. If you’re lucky, you might catch a jack, barracuda or bonefish—an exciting moment for any angler. After reeling in your catch, enjoy a breakfast featuring your fresh fish, a true island experience.

Midday: Fun at The Split and Lunch at Lazy Lizard

No Caye Caulker itinerary is complete without spending time at The Split. This popular spot offers crystal-clear waters for swimming and a lively atmosphere for socializing. When hunger strikes, head to Lazy Lizard, one of the top Caye Caulker restaurants, for a satisfying lunch. Sip on a cold drink while enjoying stunning ocean views. Don’t forget to try the famous Lazy Lizard Juice while you’re there!

I used my waterproof phone pouch often so I could get in the water and still use my phone for pictures. A great thing to have along for any beach vacation!

Afternoon: Ice Cream and Exploring by Golf Cart

After cooling off, treat yourself to ice cream at Sweet Season Ice Cream, a charming local spot. Then, explore more of the island. We rented a golf cart from out rental property, VeLento Rentals. We had a great time driving around. Using your Caye Caulker map, navigate through the sandy paths, stopping at scenic viewpoints and hidden gems along the way.

**As mentioned at the beginning of the post, we opted to do our snorkeling excursion in San Pedro on the second half of our itinerary. However, if you’re only staying in Caye Caulker, don’t skip a snorkeling excursion out to the Belize Barrier Reef. Day #2 or day #3 would be great days to work this in.

Evening: Dinner at La Cubana

As night falls, make your way to La Cubana for dinner. This cozy eatery is known for its flavorful Cuban-inspired dishes, making it a fantastic choice to end your second day on the island.

Day 3: Biking, Snorkeling, and More Fishing

Morning: Biking and Shopping

Start your final full day by renting bikes and cycling around the island. This is one of the best ways to see Caye Caulker’s vibrant neighborhoods and local shops. Stop by souvenir stores to pick up handmade crafts and unique keepsakes.

Midday: Feeding Tarpon and Lunch at Sip N’ Dip

Make your way to the tarpon feeding area, where you can watch these incredible fish leap from the water to snatch food from your hands. It’s a thrilling experience that showcases the island’s rich marine life. Afterward, enjoy lunch at Sip N’ Dip, a popular beachfront bar and grill. We sat at tables in the water for our meal. While we sipped on a drink, the kids got busy snorkeling around the docks. This was such a fun dining experience for us.

We brought our own snorkeling gear along to use from shore.

Afternoon: Fishing for Nurse Sharks

Before the day winds down, try your luck fishing off the dock once again. This time, you might catch a nurse shark—a rare but exciting experience that makes for an unforgettable story. My son was not intending to catch one, but it was a thrilling experience for him!

Evening: A Special Dinner at Weezie’s

For your final dinner, head to Weezie’s, one of the best Caye Caulker restaurants. Indulge in a delicious meal while reflecting on the incredible memories you’ve made during your island getaway.

Day 4: Departure to San Pedro

Morning: A Classic Belizean Breakfast at Errolyn’s House of Fry Jack

Before departing for San Pedro (or to your next destination), enjoy a final meal at Errolyn’s House of Fry Jack. This beloved eatery serves up some of the best fry jacks on the island, making it the perfect way to end your stay. Our only regret is that we didn’t eat here until our last day on the island. This ended up being one of our favorite meals in Belize.

Final Thoughts

This Caye Caulker itinerary ensures a perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and cultural experiences. Whether you’re staying at top Caye Caulker Belize hotels, dining at delicious Caye Caulker restaurants, or embarking on incredible Caye Caulker excursions, this island never disappoints. Be sure to use a Caye Caulker map to make the most of your trip, and don’t forget to embrace the island’s motto: Go Slow!
